    Established in 1991, our research institute is a leading research center focusing on IT fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, and Internet of Things (IoT). It consists of dedicated researchers specializing in each field, including AI and Big Data experts, as well as IT department professors and researchers. Within our institute, we have the AIBD Center, dedicated to AI and Big Data research, and the IoT Center, focusing on Internet of Things research. We play a vital role in the development of information and communication technology and the cultivation of skilled professionals. As we enter the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, we aim to lead in cutting-edge IT technologies.

  • Future IT Innovation Laboratory

    Established in 2011, the Institute is a research and educational institution focused on IT convergence that creates public and social value through challenging and innovative research in the field of IT convergence, such as Human Technology Design, IT-based Future Healthcare, and Intelligent Systems. In addition, the Institute aims to nurture global leaders who will lead the future of the IT industry. It has established itself as a hub for future IT technology through the ICT Creative Consilience program and the ICT Challenge and Advanced Network of HRD project, which are based on industry-academia-research institute-government cooperation. The institute strengthens Korea's technical capability and industrial competitiveness while leading the design and implementation of innovative university education models.   • Center for Semiconductor Technology Convergence

    Semiconductor technology is moving beyond the era of 2D flat planes and entering the 3D integration era, where chips are connected to each other. In this 3D era, new materials, new components, and new connection methods that were previously unimaginable are required. Our research center strives for challenging research to realize creative future semiconductor technology and aims to bridge the gap between research outcomes and entrepreneurship through industry-academia collaboration.

  • Scalable Quantum Computer Technology Platform Center

    The center was selected in 2019 as part of the Ministry of Science and ICT's "Leading Research Center Support Program" in the engineering field (ERC: Engineering Research Center), a national initiative. It is the first group research center in South Korea to pursue the engineering research of scalable quantum computing hardware. The center focuses on △establishing an independent domestic quantum computer △developing quantum computing component technologies △building an industry hub platform for technology transfer △nurturing key engineering talents in quantum computing. Through the development of quantum technologies, which are referred to as the "computers of dreams" due to their computing power hundreds of millions of times greater than traditional computers, the center aims to grow into a global technological platform.

  • POSTECH-Samsung Electronics Industry-Academia cooperation. Research Center

    This center was established in 2018 to enhance the educational and research capabilities in the semiconductor field at our university and to cultivate talents who will lead technological development in the semiconductor sector, particularly at Samsung Electronics. As part of this program, students will be assigned a guiding professor from the participating professors (PSEP) and will simultaneously complete the required courses for PSEP (6 credits for master's and 11 credits for Ph.D.) along with their major department courses. This interdisciplinary education will enable students to gain a conceptual understanding of two other fields within the semiconductor major (device processing, circuits, systems) in addition to their own major. Upon successful completion of the program, outstanding students will be awarded encouragement funds and will have the opportunity for employment at Samsung Electronics.

    "The Center was established in 2016 with the aim of promoting industry-academia collaboration and talent development between POSTECH and LG Display Co., Ltd. The two institutions are actively engaged in collaborative research for mutual development, jointly conducting technological projects such as industrial and national research projects, sharing research facilities, and pursuing academic and technological information exchange.   • Center for Mobile Embedded Software Technology

    Center for Mobile Embedded Software Technology (CMEST) is an ITRC research center established in October 2005 with the support of the Ministry of Information and Communication. The goals of the are to lead the development of embedded software technologies for converged mobile devices, and to drive industry growth. Members of the center formulate research and development plans on terminal embedded software, conduct in-depth studies, and actively foster the generation of highly-skilled professionals demanded by the industry. The center also collaborates with industrial companies and research institutes to conduct research, technology transfer, and guidance on the technologies needed by industries, and contributes to their development.

    The Center for Cryptocurrency & Blockchain Research (CCBR) is a crypto-blockchain research center established within POSTECH. CCBR leads Korea’s cryptocurrency research and seeks to build a venture ecosystem with faculty, students, and alumni companies. The center actively conducts research and development related to cryptocurrency, furthermore provides on-campus lectures, Moocs, and also holds blockchain seminars and conferences.

  • Medical Device Innovation Center

    POSTECH Medical Device Innovation Center aims to develop more accurate diagnosis and treatment technologies for human health and disease eradication. The research vision is to verify the clinical effect of basic medical device research results through collaborative/translational clinical research, and the success of practical commercialization is set as the educational vision to nurture global leaders to strengthen national competitiveness in the medical business. In addition, we intend to establish a plan for self-sustaining a virtuous cycle through the success of commercialization based on technology transfer and start-up. It started as a research institute affiliated with the Department of IT Convergence Engineering in 2015, was promoted to a university affiliated research institute in 2020, and was designated as a key research institute designated by the Ministry of Education in 2020.

  • Gyeongbuk Sea Grant Center

    Gyeongbuk Sea Grant Center, designated by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, is carrying out research projects in the public sector to solve pending maritime issues in Gyeongbuk with cutting-edge technologies. Since its establishment in 2009, our center has developed a camera system for helping the snow crab fishing that can be operated up to 2,000m depth (2016), and has built a three-dimensional seabed map for the first time in Korea by designing an autonomous underwater vehicle (2017). Furthermore, a smart wireless camera system capable of remote monitoring of fish farms has been designed and commercialized (2019), and a digital-based haenyeo safety system (2020) to prevent safety accidents has been developed. Like these efforts, we support differentiated solutions based on advanced IT technologies with a focus on field-oriented and customized R&D for the Gyeongbuk region.

    META MAKER SPACE stands for MAKER SPACE for MAKER SPACE, such as META DATA - data for data, META LEARNING - learning for learning, META ANALYSIS - analysis for analysis. The lab provides a platform for individuals and communities to design, prototype and manufacture their own products, ideas and inventions. The purposes are to 1) promote innovation and creativity, 2) encourage entrepreneurship, 3) support manufacturing education, 4) foster collaboration among community members. As a specialized lab based in Gyeongsangbuk-do, we support makerspaces, makers, and manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises in Gyeongsangbuk-do and the country.

  • Center for 3D Organ Printing and Stem Cells

    Center for 3D Organ Printing and Stem Cells received support from Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) to build artificial organ manufacturing facilities for animal substitutes using bioprinting in Pohang and expand infrastructure for testing and evaluation using artificial organs, based on bioprinting and stem cell technology. This center was established to further enhance the competitiveness of the national and regional bioindustry through the development of application (utilization) technology. Together with Pohang Technopark and the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, we are working to build a strong foundation for local industry, academia, and research to grow together by supporting technology development, nurturing human resources, and vitalizing technology networks for biomaterial companies such as biopharmaceuticals and cosmetics.

    This center was established with the goal of leading the global secondary battery industry through first-class secondary battery technology.
