Professor Hee-Kap Ahn receives the Minister of Science and ICT Award

Professor Hee-Kap Ahn of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering achieved the remarkable feat of receiving the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Award for his contributions to domestic software (SW) R&D. The awards ceremony took place on the 3rd at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul.
The SW Star Lab project, ‘Development of Optimal Data Structures and Application Algorithms in Dynamic Geometric Environments,’ conducted by the Algorithms Research Research Affairs and Project Management (ALGO Lab.) led by Professor Ahn, received high praise for enhancing the competitiveness of core technologies in the 4th Industrial Revolution.
This Research Affairs and Project Management focused on developing optimal data structures and Algorithms capable of processing numerous queries in real time in an environment where high-dimensional, ultra-large data volumes are constantly changing. This study secured core source technologies that simultaneously improve processing speed and accuracy in the modern computing environment, where data size and complexity are exponentially increasing.
Professor Hee-Kap Ahn ‘s team’s achievements extend beyond academic research. Their technology has significant potential as a foundational technology that will determine the performance of applied software across key future industries, including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, computer vision, and geographic information systems. The research team has consistently published Research Affairs and Project Management findings in major international academic conferences and journals and secured numerous domestic and international patents, demonstrating both academic and industrial value. Furthermore, by fostering specialized talent, they have contributed to the development of the domestic software and computing industry ecosystem.
Based on these Research Affairs and Project Management achievements, Professor Ahn’s SW Star Lab project received the highest grade in the final evaluation of the SW Computing Industry Core Technology Development Project, leading to the Minister of Science and ICT Award. Professor Hee-Kap Ahn said, “I would like to thank the students who worked with me on this Research Affairs and Project Management for a long time and the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation (IITP) for providing research funding. I will continue to strive for the continuous development of the fields of Algorithms, AI, and convergence SW.”
